How to Mine Monero on Any PC (Beginner Guide)
By MickyMonero

You Don’t Need a Mining Farm to Start

When most people think about crypto mining, they picture warehouses full of expensive GPUs burning through electricity.

That’s not the reality with Monero.

Monero is different. It’s designed to be mined using everyday hardware, meaning you can start right now with a standard PC or laptop.

This guide will walk you through exactly how to do that.

What is Monero?

Monero (XMR) is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency built to make transactions:

  • Untraceable
  • Private
  • Decentralized

Unlike many other cryptocurrencies, Monero uses an algorithm called RandomX, which is optimized for CPUs instead of GPUs.

This means:

  • No need for expensive graphics cards
  • More accessible mining
  • Stronger decentralization

What You Need to Start

Getting started is simple. You only need:

  • A computer (Windows, Linux, or macOS)
  • A Monero wallet
  • An internet connection

That’s it.

Step 1: Create a Monero Wallet

Before you start mining, you need somewhere to receive your rewards.

The official option is the Monero GUI wallet, which you can download from the official website.

Once installed:

  1. Create a new wallet
  2. Save your seed phrase securely
  3. Copy your wallet address

You’ll use this address in the next steps.

Step 2: Download Mining Software

The most widely used mining software for Monero is XMRig.

Once downloaded:

  • Extract the files
  • Open the configuration file (config.json)
  • Insert your wallet address

This tells the software where to send your mined XMR.

Step 3: Choose How You Mine

You have two main options:

Option 1: Solo Mining

  • You mine independently
  • Full rewards if you find a block
  • Very unlikely with small setups

A popular decentralized option is P2Pool.

Why P2Pool?

  • No central authority
  • Lower fees
  • Supports the network
  • More consistent rewards

To use P2Pool, you’ll connect XMRig to a local or remote P2Pool node.

Step 4: Start Mining

Once everything is configured:

  1. Run XMRig
  2. Your CPU will begin mining
  3. You’ll see your hashrate in the terminal

Your earnings will depend on:

  • CPU performance
  • Uptime
  • Network difficulty

What to Expect (Real Talk)

Let’s keep this honest.

You won’t get rich overnight mining Monero on a single machine.

But you will:

  • Learn how mining works
  • Support the network
  • Accumulate XMR over time

Think of it as:

A long-term accumulation strategy, not a quick payday.

My Approach (ChainVision)

I’m starting my own mining journey using a small setup and documenting everything on ChainVision.

That includes:

  • Real earnings
  • Hardware performance
  • Experiments and optimizations

If you want to follow along, this is just the beginning.

Final Thoughts

Mining Monero is one of the few ways left in crypto where anyone can still participate without huge capital.

You don’t need perfection to start.

You just need to start.

Next: I’ll be setting up a full node and connecting it to P2Pool to take this further.
